Chocolate Red Wine cake
Many months ago, when we were visiting Germany , I had my eyes opened to a whole new world called Chocolate Red Wine cake. 🙂 We were at a friend’s house for “Coffee & Cake”, and she had baked a whole assortment of cakes and pastries, Chocolate Red Wine cake being one of them.
Fastforward a year, and I was sitting in my living room, staring at a half-consumed bottle of wine, unwilling to stretch it out for two more days. And the idea of baking a holiday cake just came upon me the same way truffles seem to come upon me when I’m grocery shopping. I found a recipe after searching for something that would meet my “not too sweet” criteria, and we set to work.
We needed super powers to measure the flour correctly.
As I started measuring the liquids, I realized we were completely out of butter (who lets that happen?!). So we made a quick trip to the grocery store, and then resumed our cooking work. Superman was gone, quickly replaced by Captain Underpants, spooning the flour/cocoa dry mix into the mixer.
That batter was pretty much the yummiest I’ve had in a while. Partly due to the undertones of Seghesio.
Just look at that! I could have faceplanted in it without regrets.
45 minutes later, the cake was ready. We cooled it on a wire rack (while we went off to see a movie), and then we brought the confectioner’s sugar out.
Nom nom. Guess what I had for breakfast this morning?
The husband has declared this cake as “very authentic”. I still need to get our friend’s recipe, given that she comes from a family of bakers and all, but at least we have our own winner till then!
