Operation Evac!

Oh Hurricane Irma! As it made its course towards Florida, my sister’s town was on a direct path for a category 5 landfall. We were worried for my sister who was unable to secure commercial flights out of her town. Additionally, she was not confident about making an evacuation drive all the way to Georgia with her two kids. On the morning of the Friday that was my last day of work, and the last day before Irma made landfall, MrM pulled a hero card. He flew his single engine plane all the way to Orlando (8 hrs of flight time!), where my sister obtained a ride to. He called me after picking her & the kids up, and started his return leg. Unable to find a single hotel room to spend the night on the way back, he decide to fly yet another 8 hr trip, coming back home close to 3am on Saturday. The first night of my retirement was spent in quite a bit of agony, not knowing if everyone would make it home safely! However, all is well that ends well, and my sister flew back later that week to a mostly intact home. The husband has acquired a well-deserved caped hero status in the family 🙂

He planned the rescue op so well that he could not have flown a mile further south into Florida- look at the storm line with the rainbow! Good job, MrM. I’m proud of you!

Beautiful sunset flying out of danger and towards Texas.
