Not just any bread
We were at a kid’s birthday party recently, where they were serving peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Ro grabbed one, and as he bit into it, his eyes widened like saucers. He asked me with wonder in his tone, “Mom, what kind of bread is this?!”.
“It is white bread, sweetie.”
“Can you please buy me some?”
It had never occurred to me that in our whole grain, farm-raised, back to roots culture, something as simple as white bread had fallen by the way side. Ro didn’t know what white bread was.
Looking at the wonder in his face, I knew I couldn’t possibly deny him this childhood staple. So, this week, we said no to whole grain with millet seeds and poppy seeds and god-knows-what-else seed-containing bread. Ro is having PB&J on white bread for the next few days.
